A few more details are emerging regarding the new 7900 & 9900 printers from Epson. In response to the overwhelming question of whether there will be a 4900 or 3900 - likely not. The problem is that the printhead is the new printhead from the 11880 and it simply won't fit without a mechnical redesign of the 4880 & 3800.

Also, we anticipate that these prints should be available for shipment to customers by mid-December. To answer the ultimate question as to whether you should buy these models for $1000 more or the 7880/9880 - if you need a "proofing printer", meaning that you need a wider color gamut than currently exists, then the answer is possibly. These printers are an extension of the Epson family to the proofing/packaging market and DO NOT replace the existing line. There WILL be a new set of inks so you can't swap ink cartridges either.
